Strength For Today - All Terrain Feet

All Terrain Feet

It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights. Psalm 18:32-33

Some years ago I had the opportunity to visit the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in mountainous region of Colorado. As we made our way up the mountain, our vehicle was traveling on a two lane mountain side road with the mountain face on one side and a steep cliff on the other side. We were all admiring the awesome beauty and majesty of our surroundings when we were startled by a deer that dashed across front of our vehicle from the mountain side to the cliff side. Simultaneously, we all let out a collective gasp, not because we thought we would hit the deer, but because the deer dashed across the front of our vehicle, and disappeared down the side of the extremely steep cliff. Everyone in the vehicle except the driver who was our tour guide was quite sure the deer had just met a sudden and untimely end. Our driver hearing our gasps chuckled and assured us not to worry, the deer was perfectly fine

As treacherous and dangerous as the mountain was to us, the deer was built for it. It had the right feet. The deer is able to avoid the dangers posed by predators, the cars, and the mountain cliff, all because it has the right feet

You see, when you have have feet like deer feet, you can handle the dangers posed by the mountain cliff. In praising God, David said the Lord made his feet like deer feet, causing him to stand on high places. For David, triumph comes not necessarily from removing the obstacles but by giving him the right feet

Overcoming our obstacles may not be a matter of God removing them, but of God giving us all terrain feet. We need to ask God to give us feet to walk through the fire and not be burned, to climb the mountain and not fall, to step on serpents and not be bitten, to run through the mud and not get stuck. Sometimes our prayers should not be for God to remove the obstacles, but to give us the feet we need

We can more confidently accept challenges coming our way when we know we have all terrain feet. Equipped with the right feet, we will not fear what is before us, or what is beneath us. We know we will get through it. Let out prayer today be for God to give us feet like deer feet, all terrain feet to make us ready to take on any terrain
